Championships & Playoffs

Game times may differ depending on the state or region. Tournament Directors reserve the right to adjust game lengths as necessary to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the event. Directors will always strive to make decisions that are fair and equitable for all participants.

Applicable to red events only: In brackets with nine or more teams, no two teams from the same organization will be matched against each other in the first round of the playoffs, unless the matchup is directly affected by a bye.

Championship Games: Championship games will have no time limit, provided that the schedule allows for extended gameplay.

Home team: In Championship Play, the higher-seeded team will be designated as the home team, except in instances where the tournament bracket is unseeded. In unseeded brackets, the home team will be determined by a coin flip. This rule will take precedence over any conflicting information on the tournament schedule.

Note: Teams that depart from the tournament before its conclusion will not be eligible to participate in the playoff rounds. In such a scenario, the second-place team within the pool or the next most deserving team will be considered for advancement. The Tournament Director will ultimately determine the most equitable outcome.
Effective August 2023, the pool protection rule will no longer be in effect.

Extra Innings

  • The tiebreaker rule implemented is the Texas Tiebreaker, where the last three hitters are placed on base with one out.
  • Balk: The balk rule as defined by Major League Baseball will be enforced. A balk does not constitute a dead ball.
  • Base Runners:
The last three batters from the previous inning will be placed on base: the last batter on first base, the batter preceding them on second base, and the batter preceding those two on third base.
Standard substitution rules will apply to these runners.
The hitting team will commence the inning with one out recorded.
Play will continue until one team has a lead at the conclusion of the inning.
  • 9u-12u: Championship games will be played with regular extra innings until the designated time limit has been reached. If the time limit expires before a winner is determined, the last three batters from the previous inning will be placed on base with one out to begin the next half-inning.
  • 13u-14u: Championship games will be played with regular extra innings through the ninth inning. Beginning in the tenth inning, the last three batters from the previous inning will be placed on base with one out.
  • NOTE: Effective March 9, 2020, time limits will be implemented for all Semi-final games, with specific time limits applicable to each age group.
