Perfect Game - Pitching

Pitching Regulations

Balk Rule: The MLB balk rule will be strictly enforced during the event. It is important to note that when a balk is called, it does not result in a dead ball. Play will continue following a called balk.

Fake to 3B / throw to 1B: The "fake to third and throw to first" play remains a legal pitch in Perfect Game Youth events. Additionally, when in the windup position, a pitcher is permitted to have their free foot on the rubber, in front of the rubber, behind the rubber, or to the side of the rubber.

Daily Pitching Limits

If a pitcher reaches the daily pitch count limit, they are permitted to complete their current at-bat before being removed from the game.

For instance, a 13U pitcher who begins an at-bat with 94 pitches may finish pitching to that batter before being required to leave the game.

  • 7u & 8u: For players aged 7U-8U, the daily pitch count limit is 50 pitches or 15 outs, whichever comes first.
  • 9u & 10u: For players aged 9U-10U, the daily pitch count limit is 75 pitches or 18 outs, whichever comes first.
  • 11u & 12u: For players aged 11U-12U, the daily pitch count limit is 85 pitches or 18 outs, whichever comes first.
  • 13u & 14u: For players aged 13U-14U, the daily pitch count limit is 95 pitches or 21 outs, whichever comes first.

Event Limits

If a pitcher reaches the event pitch count limit, they are permitted to complete their current at-bat before being removed from the game.

For instance, a 13U pitcher who begins an at-bat with 99 pitches may finish pitching to that batter before being required to leave the game.

Once a player has been removed from pitching duties, they are not permitted to return to the mound during the same game.

  • 7u to 14u: For players aged 7U to 14U, the maximum number of outs pitched over a three-day period is 24.
  • 9 Out in a day: If a player records more than nine outs in a single day, they are required to have two consecutive days of rest.
  • 100 Pitch maximum: The maximum pitch count allowed over a two-, three-, or four-day event is 100 pitches
  • 140 Pitch maximum: The maximum pitch count allowed over events spanning five or more days is 140 pitches.
  • 1 Game in a day: Players are permitted to pitch in more than one game during a single day of competition, provided they do not surpass the established daily pitch count limits.

Note: No pitcher shall be allowed to pitch in a game on three consecutive days, regardless of their pitch count. Additionally, no pitcher shall be permitted to appear in three games within the same day, regardless of their pitch count. For the purpose of these pitching restrictions, the "end of a day" is defined as the time when the facility closes and teams have a break in play before the start of the following day's games. It is important to note that pitchers who record outs or pitch in a game that is forfeited will still have those outs and pitches counted towards their respective pitching limitations.

Pitching Violations

Upon notification of a violation, the pitcher must be immediately replaced on the mound. It is important to note that this does not result in a forfeit of the game.
